The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences was one of the three Faculties that were created with the establishment of the College of Medicine, Ekiti State University in 2011 for the purpose of teaching medical students. The first set of medical students were admitted 2009/2010 academic session to resumed to the Faculty in 2010/2011 academic session after a successful one academic session in the Faculty of Science. The faculty is responsible for the preclinical training of medical students until they write and pass the first professional Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) examinations.

Afterwards, the faculty started to admit and train students to acquire knowledge culminating into the award of the B.Sc. degrees in the fields of Anatomy, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science and Physiology.

The Faculty was successfully accredited by both Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) in 2015 and recently by other professional bodies like Nursing Council and Medical Laboratory Science Council to be qualified to train students for MBBS degree and B.Sc. degrees in Nursing Science and Medical Laboratory Science.

I am very much pleased to lead the Faculty at this time as we have a lot more to do in establishing more and more other academic departments and programs. Also, I am well prepared and excited about what we have to offer and the many opportunities that await us in training of all our students, developing our faculty and serving the community.
