Philosophy of the Department

The Departmental philosophy is to produce doctors who are confident in managing children generally irrespective of their disease condition or clinical state. The student’s clinical rotation is designed in such a way that the students are taught the basic rudiments of Paediatrics during their junior posting while the senior posting is targeted at consolidating on the knowledge acquired during the junior posting by exposing them to more complex tasks which are needed in managing Paediatric clients.

The goal is to ensure that we produce doctors who are safe to manage our children.

Objectives of the Department

The objectives of the Paediatrics Department are to:

  1. Produce doctors who are safe to care for children.
  2. Provide a broad and reasonable foundation knowledge in Paediatrics and the basic skills required in clinical practice.
  3. Produce doctors who are relevant to the field of Medicine both locally and internationally.
  4. Conduct both quantitative and qualitative research that can impact the health of children positively and contribute to the body of knowledge.
  5. Be the preferred destination for the training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students and doctors.
  6. Be the preferred centre for Paediatric care in the State and region.
