Brief History of The Department

The Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology of the Ekiti State University started in the year 2012 when the first set of lecturers Dr. Odimayo M.S, and Dr. Nwadioha S.I came on board for sabbatical leave from Benue State University. During this period, Dr. Williams B joined the Department as a contract staff. Other past Heads of Department were Dr. Atiba A.S.

Dr. Omotayo J.A and Dr. Idowu A.A The Department gained more strength with subsequent employment of Prof. Adegboro. B (Sabbatical), Dr. Shittu A.A (lecturer I), Mrs Adewunmi A.F (lecturer II), Prof Onipede A.O (Visiting Professor), Prof. Kolawole O.M (Visiting Professor), Dr. Awosanya J.A (lecturer II), Dr. Fadeyi A (Visiting Reader) and Dr.Lawani A.O (Lecturer I). Other technical staff are Miss Joseph G.M, Mrs. Ibitoye K.Y (Laboratory Technologists) and Mrs.Durogbade J.T (Medical Laboratory technicians).

The Objectives and Mission Statement

The Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology is designed to train Medical students to have good basic knowledge (including laboratory practical) and information about infectious diseases (including emerging and re-emerging) which will help them to compete with their contemporaries around the world. This training also form part of the basic knowledge needed in other area of specialization like Paediatrics, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Community Medicine and Intensive care Units; making them a better Physician/Surgeon.
