Brief History of The Faculty
Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences was one of the three Faculties that were created with the establishment of the College of Medicine, Ekiti State University in 2009. The first set of medical students resumed in the Faculty in October 2010 after a successful one academic year in the Faculty of Science. The faculty is responsible for the preclinical training of medical and nursing students until they write and pass the first professional examinations. In addition, the faculty also trains students to acquire knowledge culminating in the award of the BSc degrees in the fields of Anatomy and Physiology. The Faculty was successfully accredited by both Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) in 2015. The First Professional Examination for the first set of medical students was held in September 2015.
The Faculty has had five Deans since its establishment;
The pioneer Dean was Prof Adeyinka Afolayan (2010 – 2015).
